Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals contest the second qualifier for the IPL Final at Mullanpur on Friday and we take a look at how both sides have been getting on before nailing up a couple of bets
Betting Update
The winner of this game will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Sunday’s final at Ahmedabad.
In the outright betting market to win the tournament RCB are 15/20 favourites with the Royals trading at 26/10 and the Titans can be backed at around 3/1
To win this match the Titans are even money and the Royals are 8/10
Gujarat Titans
The Titans lost their first 2 matches of the tournament but had a cracking second half of the regular season and finished as runners up to RCB on net run rate with a record of 9 wins and 5 defeats.
They faced off with RCB in the first qualifier for the final at Dharamsala on Tuesday and they were beaten by 92 runs. RCB posted 254/5 batting first and the Titans made a mess of the chase with Rahul Tewatia top scoring with 68 and only two other batsmen making it to double figures as they were bowled out for 162.
Sudharsan has made 652 runs in this tournament, Shubman Gill has 618 with Jos Buttler third best with 498. Kagiso Rabada has taken 26 wickets and is joint top of the tournaments bowling charts alongside RCB’s Kumar. Rashid Khan has taken 19 and Siraj 17.
Rajasthan Royals
The Royals finished fourth in the regular season with a record of 8 wins and 6 defeats. They won their first 4 matches of the tournament to set the early pace but then became hard to catch right before they finished with back to back wins at home to the Super Giants and away to Mumbai Indians to make the play offs.
The Royals faced off with the Sunrisers in the Eliminator at this venue on Wednesday and they came out on top by 47 runs. Batting first the Royals posted 243/8 with Sooryavanshi making 97 and Jurel 50. Although Jofra Archer was expensive, he took 3 wickets whilst Burger, Mishra and Jadeja all claimed 2 as SRH were bowled out for 196.
These teams met in Match 9 in Ahmedabad and the Royals (210/6) beat the Titans by (204/8) by 6 runs. The second meeting came in Jaipur in Match 52 and this time the Titans (229/4) beat the Royals (152 all out) by 77 runs.
Sooryavanshi is the tournament’s leading run scorer with 680 from 15 innings, Jurel is next best with 508 and Jaiswal has made 426. Jofra Archer has taken 24 wickets, that’s 9 more than any other Royals bowler.
The Verdict
The Royals have the benefit of having played their first play off at this venue but I’m not sure they deserve to be favourites. I’m with Shubman Gill to be the top run scorer on either side and Rashid Khan (who took 4 Royals wickets last time the teams met) to be the top wicket taker in the match.
Bets: Top rRunscorer in the match Shubman Gill at 4.25/1 with WSB
Top wicket taker in the match Rashid Khan at 6.25/1 with WSB
