The Betway Premiership action continues on Wednesday with four matches on the coupon and ou focus is on Amazulu vs Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs vs Sekhukhune

Amazulu vs Orlando Pirates

Amazulu 6/1 Draw 11/4 Pirates 11/20

At the time of writing Amazulu were one of five teams on 3 points after winning their opening match of the Betway Premiership season. That victory came away from home at Stellenbosch to get Amazulu off to a flyer in heir bid to improve on last season’s fourth placed finish. Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya got the decisive goal at Stellies and he was on target again at the weekend but this time Amazulu were on the losing side, edged out of a thriller by Sekhukhune (4-3) in extra time in the quarter finals of the MTN8.

Title holders Pirates also won their first league game of the season when they beat newcomers Milford FC 2-0 in Orlando with goals from Appollis and Moremi. That was a routine victory but in the MTN8 at the weekend Pirates had to dig deep to see off Durban City 2-1 after extra time, also in Orlando. Maswanganyi put the Bucs in front from the penalty spot but although City were down to men from that moment onwards Pirates conceded in the second half, the game went into extra time and right at the death Ghampani Lungu popped up with the winner.

The Verdict

Pirates have the most dominant of records in head to heads with Amazulu but they will have to be on their game to take maximum points here. I'm going to take my chances wit both teams to score, mainly down to Amazulu's capacity for scoring and conceding in the cup game at the weekend.

Kaizer Chiefs vs Sekhukhune

Chiefs 57/100 Draw 59/20 Sekhukhune 26/5

Chiefs began the new Betway Premiership season with a 3-1 win at newcomers Kruger United. They still look work in progress under the new coach but it was a positive start nonetheless with an early goal from Silva and after Kruger equalized on the stroke of half time a second half brace from Duba secured victory. Chiefs were then firm favourites to follow up in the MTN8 quarters at the weekend but they went down 1-0 at home to Golden Arrows with Chiefs having the bulk of the chances which they failed to convert.

Sekhukhune finished a very creditable fifth in the league last season and they were 1-0 winners against Polokwane City in the opening round of the current Betway Premiership campaign thanks to a goal from Bright Ndlovu. Four different players then found the net in that pulsating 4-3 MTN8 win at Amazulu at the weekend with Vuyo Letlapa bagging the all important winner in extra time.

The Verdict

The two head to heads last season went the way of whichever team was playing away from home and given the contrasting fortunes in the MTN8 at the weekend this looks a tricky call. Once again I'm tempted by both teams to find the net.
