The Betway Premiership action continues on Sunday and our focus is on Chippa United vs Orlando Pirates, a fixture the title holders have dominated in the past.
Chippa United
Chippa have drawn both their Betway Premiership matches so far. They began by taking a decent point from a visit to Golden Arrows which finished without a goal. Their midweek “home game” against Richards Bay was staged at Dobsonville, Soweto. Ntuthuko Mlotshwa gave Chippa the lead midway through the first half but early in the second period Richards Bay were level and it remained 1-1 to the full time whistle. Chippa now take aim at Pirates and it’s worth noting that the match is staged at Kings Park, Durban.
Orlando Pirates
Pirates defence of the league title has started with 4 points earned from their first 2 matches. They took on Amazulu in Durban in midweek and had to settle for a 1-1 draw. Everything was going to plan as Moremi gave the Bucs a seventh minute lead but Amazulu were level on the stroke of half time. Pirates passed up a number of chances in the match but were well below par and they had to be content with a point. In their first league game of the season Pirates beat newcomers Milford FC 2-0 in Orlando with goals from Appollis and Moremi.
Either side of those two league games Pirates had to dig deep to see off Durban City 2-1 after extra time of the MTN8 quarter finals, also in Orlando. Maswanganyi put the Bucs in front from the penalty spot but although City were down to 10 men from that moment onwards Pirates conceded in the second half, the game went into extra time and right at the death Ghampani Lungu popped up with the winner.
Recent Head to Head
Pirates won this fixture 3-0 last season and the return in Orlando finished 2-0 in their favour.
The last 20 head to heads in league and cup have seen Pirates win 18 and the other 2 finished in a draw.
The Betting
At the time of writing Chippa are 10/1 shots with the draw at 4/1 and Pirates are short price favourites at 3/10
A game of 3 goals or more is priced at 19/20 and it’s 31/20 for both teams to score
Pirates -1 goal is 17/20

The Verdict
It’s fair to say that Pirates haven’t really fired yet but it’s hard to get away from their record against Chippa who have coughed up home advantage as well. In a bid to find a bet in my usual price range I will take my chances with Pirates to score in both halves of football.
