As far as local football is concerned all eyes are on Loftus for Wednesday’s Betway Premiership clash between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs
Mamelodi Sundowns
Sundowns finished the weekend program 5 points in front of Pirates in the title race but having played one game more. Given the Bucs were in action away at Stellenbosch 24 hours before this gam takes place the title race picture will change but Downs at least have the knowledge that their destiny is in their own hands with this game another home fixture against Siwelele and a visit to TS Galaxy still to come. They also have the first leg of the CAF Champions League Final against RAF of Morocco to contest before the Betway Premiership season is over.
Downs have just completed back to back wins over Polokwane City, 1-0 away and then 3-0 at home. Prior to that they dropped points in a 0-0 draw at Richards Bay and another draw with Stellenbosch in a home fixture but they are 18 unbeaten in the league and 14 of those games have been won. Their only league defeat this season came away to Golden Arrows back in September.
Kaizer Chiefs
Chiefs came unstuck away to Siwelele last time out when they were beaten 2-0. That ended a 7 match unbeaten run of league games, 5 straight wins and draws with Polokwane City and Pirates. Chiefs remain in third spot which is as high as they can finish, they are 5 points clear of fourth placed Amazulu with 4 rounds of matches to go.
The only teams the teams have met this season came in the Betway Premiership back in August and the game finished without a goal.
The Betting:
Sundowns can be backed at 13/20 to win the game with the draw priced at 24/10 and Chiefs are 54/10 shots
A game of 3 goals or more in total is priced at 13/10 and it’s 5/4 for both teams to score
The Verdict:
Chiefs dented Pirates title ambitions with the draw in the recent derby but could now do them a huge favour by taking points off Sundowns. Chiefs also still have work to do to make sure they secure qualification for next season’s CAF Confederations Cup so it’s far from a dead rubber.
I’m going to go with Downs to edge this by a single goal margin.
Bets: Sundowns to win by exactly 1 goal at 11/5 with Sportingbet
