Atletico Madrid v Club Brugge (Tuesday)

An own goal saw Atletico back in front but Christos Tzolis squared things up on 89 minutes and there was no further scoring.

In the league phase Atletico won 4, drew 1 and lost 3 of their matches and they faded in the later rounds to finish 14th. They won home games against Frankfurt (5-1), Union SG (3-1) and Inter (2-1) before a 3-2 win at PSV in Round 6. Thereafter dropped points in a 1-1 draw at Galatasaray followed by a shock 2-1 home defeat to Bodo cost them a top 8 automatic qualification spot.

Brugge came through qualifying and were another side to finish on 10 points with 3 wins, 1 draw and 4 defeats in the league phase. They started with a 4-1 win at home to Monaco and their next point came on Matchday 4, a 3-3 draw at home to Barcelona. They had to win both of their last 2 matches to make the play offs and they obliged by seeing off Kairat (4-1) away from home and then Marseille (3-0) in a home fixture.

Inter v Bodo Glimt (Tuesday)

Bodo took some big scalps in reaching these play offs and with a 3-1 lead from the first leg they are now threatening to add Inter to the list. Second half goals from Jens Petter Hauge and Kapser Waarts Hogh just after the hour mark put the Norwegians 3-1 in front and that’s they way it stayed.

In the league phase Inter finished tenth with a record of 5 wins and 3 defeats. They were cruising after winning their first 4 matches, at ajax and Union SG and at home to Slavia Prague and Kairat. However they lost their next 3 games at Atletico and at home to Liverpool and Arsenal and although they were 2-0 winners at Dortmund in the final round, they came up just short of automatic qualification.

Bodo came through qualifying and squeezed into the play offs with 2 wins, 3 draws and 3 defeats in the league phase. They started with draws at Slavia Prague and at home to Spurs but then lost 3 in a row, at Galatasaray and at home to Monaco and Juve. Their race looked to be run at that stage but they conjured up wins at home to Man City and then away to Atletico in their last 2 matches to make the cut.
