quiet couple days on racing front, so took a little peak at trainer strike rates, comparing 24/25 season to 25/26 season to date -
- these are the trainers with win % above 15%,
- Wasawi leading, he manages the Hollywoodbets set-up at Ashburton, doing a good job and yard have a strong support team in place,
- Paddy Kruyer is a veteran of the game and his strike rate has massively improved to x2 of last season (24% vs 11%),
- Candice Dawson and Darryl Moore are smallish yards but also both running at around double their win % of last season,
- of the big stables, Tony Peter and Mike/Matt de Kock lead the charge with win % just over 17% (about par vs last season),
- looking seperately at place % rates, Roy Magner, a yard i often follow, leads the stats at a place strike rate of 57% of their runners season to date.

Cheers South, most interesting, some of the names on the list of trainers surprise me, great efforts from some of the smaller yards. 15% a good yardstick to use

Classic Day:
Race 1- Detailed Forecast (33/10) - Good last run in soft conditions. Rain expected today. Main danger is The Reason (15/4), who might just be in need of the run after a short rest and might be looking for further. Watch the betting on the well bred Banana Split from the Alec Laird yard.
Race 2 - Two well bred expensive first timers in Cool Gambler (Hawwaam x Espumanti) and Greenandgold (Gimmethegreenlight x Seattle Gold) do battle. There has been money for the R5 million purchase, Cool Gambler from 5/2 into 14/10. Stable comments are not overly confident. Highwayman Harry (5/1) is one on my watchlist and has some decent past form behind the likes of Errol Flynn and highly rated Rabble Rouser.
Race 3 - World Attraction (4/10) won impressive on debut and I'm not interested in looking further than him.
Race 4 - Lanzarote (5/1) receives weight from a few runners and could reverse form with Griselda.
Race 6 - Hazy Dazy (12/10) looks slung in here. I remember the stable saying that she will be even better the further she goes and that they are confident of winning the Triple Tiara with her. Littlemissmillion and Charge It for swingers
Race 7 - All over Jan van Goyen (3/1). What price would any of the other runners in this race have been in the King's Plate? This horse started favorite and had excuses in SA's premier race over 1600m. The de Kock yard wouldn't run him here if they had doubts over the trip.
Race 8 - Hats off to Justin Snaith and Dean Kannemeyer for bringing See It Again and The Real Prince up for this race. Excited for this race and think it won't be easy to beat Main Defender (7/1) and Fire Attack in their own backyard. Tin Pan Alley ran 3.7 lenghts behind Jan van Goyen over a mile in soft conditions at Greyville earlier. Just not sure if he truely gets the mile over the longer run in on the standside track?
Race 9 - Taxi To The Moon (4/1) drawn on the right side of the track and racing fit. Im going to keep a close eye on Constellation (5/1). This horse was quietly fancied in the Cape Flying Championship and stable comments indicates this as a prep run for the Computaform Sprint.
Race 11 - Hong Kong (3/1) and Vamanos (13/2) to fight it out.
Race 12 - Smart money for Cape Saffron 10/1 to 7/1. This horse has run well behind the likes of Paul Revere, Hazy Dazy, Valentina Balducci, Vamanos and Warning Sound.

Enjoy your holiday Chris !! And thanks Jacques for the above .
Race 1
Open race , lots with chances , preference for Once in Blue Moon
Race 2
The heavy purchases dominate the betting and it really is a difficult pick between the two , it's not impossible for an upset but for now I'm leaning towards the Tarry filly GreenandGold
Race 4
Openish and I like the early money for Custodian. Will stick with her.
Race 5
Gerbera returns against the ladies and should run well, another Tarry horse and hoping he continues his great record on bid days
Race 6
Golden Palm was all the rage last time but is easy to back today , Hazy Dazy has been a revelation , costing 38000 and having earned 930 000 so far , she's a tough and should prove hard to beat
Race 7
I'm sticking with Splittheeights but Jacques does make a good case for Jan Van Graan
Race 8
I'm all over Fire Attack in the feature

Race 5 Bakwena at around 9/1, not the most reliable but drawn well, de Melo up and if in the mood can be involved
Race 7 Murray is riding JVG I'm assuming he had the choice and given that one is returning from Western Cape I'll take it on. Think Trust who has beaten JVG before can improve again over 1800m being y a Frankel mare, drawn 2 another plus
Race 8 With Coil here, Fire Attack at around 10/1 right now, places and wins, home ground advantage could be a big factor

Adding another one. Race 9 Mount Pinatubo at around 10/1, decent effort on comeback, de Melo on top, lightly raced this one and sprinting could end up being his game

Tied up most day so just a few -
T6 - Warning Sound @ 14/1 ew. Handy weight and looks in a good space,
T8 - Cosmic Speed @ 28/1 ew. A speculative punt but a 3.5 L besting in kings place from worst draw was a decent effort. Back on favourite course, still only a 4yr old.
