Saturday 6th June – Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge
The Grade 1 Gold Challenge will be run over 1600m at Greyville on Saturday and last year’s winner Dave The King is expected to be in the line up. However a fair share of the headlines will go to July Entrants Eight on Eighteen and See It Again as well as The Real Prince who won the 2025 Durban July. With the bang in form Questioning also a likely runner it promises too be a cracking contest.

R4 Madra Rua at around 5/1, one only two runners from the yard today, has been expensive to follow, gelded now, one thats relocated from GTG is even money fav and brings decent form down to WCP but at the prices prefer this one.
R7 Master Coiner at around 7/2, open maiden and really tricky with not too much depth to the race. Looks bred for this trip and more and given it looks likely to be sticky stamina the key
R8 Captains Alliance at around 8/1, c and d winner, has won and placed in wet, 1600 looks ideal and well drawn at 3 with MR having dropped markedly since early in career

R1 Sierra Foxtrot at around 9/2 , wasn't fancied on debut but fly jumped and lost 4l according to Computaform, was beaten by just less than that, should be wiser today though plenty of weight to carry not a strong field
R2 Hard to argue with the fav Hazel Green though won't be getting involved at odds on. Only rated 74 so I'm assuming the yard have brought this one to KZN for poly races
R3 A bit of a Hail Mary at Crimson Typhoon at 20/1 each way, hasn't shown much but absolutely no weight plus a claim, well drawn at 2 and penultimate start on this surface was backed but clipped heels.
R4 Will go with The Wolf at around 4/1, many of those seem very closely matched, was unlucky last time out and generally consistent
R5 Toyed with Global Movement who finally nails a draw but slight preference Dapper (7/1) who has by and large been running in better races and MR has been sliding
R6 Chances everywhere but will take mine with Kalahari Roller at around 9/2 , consistent and 4kg claimer keeps the ride
R7 Kali Bwana at around 7/2 c and d winner, finally nails a draw
R8 One Path at around 10/1 looks like this trip might be a touch short but owner / trainer combo always worth a second look, does well on poly and has been running against stronger

Greyville today:
Race 1 - Not a fan of Smart Choice, who has been costly to follow. Do fancy a bit of Cartel Queen (28/1) who is a consistent stake earner and finished her race in a faster time than SC on 26 April when both had their most recent runs. The apprentice also takes another 2.5kg off, draw is against her. Swingers and exactas with Chris' pick, Sierra Foxtrot (9/2)
Race 2 - Again going against the favorite. Tipperary (15/4) gets the services of in-form jockey, Michel again. The horse is a consistent stake earner and finished second in her only start on poly. Hazel Green massive runner first time on poly and MR has dropped 12 points. Just not completely convinced @ 7/10 as she has been costly to follow in the past. Dancing in Denmark (9/2) from pole position also in with a shout, from last run on poly not bad.
Race 3 - Diamond Maker (3/1) steps up from 1400m to 2000m, yards only runner today and should be a big runner here. Skipper O'Malley @12/10 for a top 3 place good value.
Race 4 - Trois Trois Quatre (15/4) enjoys the poly, dropped in ratings and been running on well lately.
Race 6 - Donquerari (11/2) has attracted money in his last 2 starts on the poly. Jockey knows him well, nice e/w value carrying only 53kg. Pop Chart (5/2) is the yards only runner on the day. Solid form against stronger, returns from a rest but has to carry 7kg more than Donquerari.
Race 8 - Preacher Man (7/2) has solid form against some class juveniles and could easily win this if she takes to the poly.

R1 Most of the raced runners prominent in the betting have had a number of chances. Maybe the Kannemeyer first timer might not have to be too special to win this but poorly drawn and debuting on the poly also puts me off. Will chance my arm with So Indi (each way around 8/1) only 3rd run and drawn at 1, 2yo allowance plus sex allowance plus 1.5 kg claim means no weight, debut was promising, something up last time, hoping that can be forgiven. .
R2 Not much to inspire me here, small each way on Heavenly Mafia at around 12.5/1, drawn 1. WCP form looks ok, 2 poor runs since arriving in KZN but not the strongest of fields to take on. .
R3 Rooster Bradshaw each way at around 20/1. Only had 2 runs on poly, was was a win off a mark just 1 point higher than runs off here. Excuses last time, hampered, cast shoe, wide draw etc but Muzi is on top again.
R4 Mister Nibbles each way at around 10/1. Almost a year since last win but has too often been slowly away, de Melo up on Saturday and 2 of 3 career wins on this surface
R5 Will probably settle on De Gulden, win at 7/2 , only had one run in WCP and after 2 pretty good efforts this will be the third run in KZN. Stepping up to 1400 for first time which being by a Dynasty mar might unlock some more improvement.
Remainder of the card to follow in due course

My thoughts for Greyville:
Race 1 - Open race. Kannemeyer first-timer doesn't have to be special as Chris mentioned. Looking at the jockey bookings thus far, So Indy (17/2) must be showing something at home, stable form is concerning though. Pressure Point (18/10) has been backed in his last two starts and now gets the services of Manne Fortune. Should have the run of the race from draw 2. Owner of Creation (36/10) is never far off and rates a decent horse for swingers. De Melo back up. Kiartay (15/4) tries poly for the first time and a repeat of his first run behind Marseilles should see him winning here. I will have an e/w on The Flat Cat (40/1) who has bumped a couple of good ones in Master Magician, Flamethrower, Better Never Ends and Quest of Valor. Trainer/jockey combo also hot the last two months.
Bet: The Flat Cat e/w @ 40/1
Race 2 - In my opinion not so straight forward. Mrsglittersparkles (33/1) hasn't missed the quartet in 7 starts on poly. She has a wide draw to overcome. Stable in hot form. Worth an e/w again. Vaans Spirit (6/1) is also always in the money on the poly while Spirit of Shimla has been backed from 2/1 into 5/4
Bet: Boxed Swingers 2x3x8
Hail Mary R10 Double: The Flat Cat x Mrsglittersparkles @ 1393/1
Race 3 - Craig Zackey is 2/2 on Father Christmas (33/20). He has ridden 3 others in this race before, so will trust his judgement. Will back up with Pritti United should FC not take to the poly.
Race 4 - Money for Wiccan Warrior (5/1) who has taken on much stronger before. Will follow and include with Klein Karoo and Royal Sword in P6.
Race 5 - Wide open. All of 1,3,4,6,8 should go into P6 perms.
Race 6 - World Series (19/4) returns as gelding and together with Eric Dubois (8/1), must be massive runners based on their run behind Turn It Up. Going with only these two in the P6
Race 7 - Open again. Questioning, See It Again and The Real Prince must be included on their King's Plate run. Tin Pan Alley also a big runner. I'm chasing value with Gladatorian (11/1), who is back on home turf and ran a top second behind Questioning on his seasonal debut last time out.
Race 8 - Going for Quickstepgal (2/1) due to this being over 1400m. Shes got the form behind the likes of Keukenhof and Wish List. Will include Mon Petit Cherie in the P6 as she also oozes class. Over 1600m I would have preffered her over Quickstepgal. Care Forgot 21/20 for a top 5 place.
Race 9 - Regulation (19/10) needs to win this to qualify for the July. Stable rates him highly. Thats enough for me. JP's Palace is also entered for the July, in good form and a value top 4 place bet @ 23/10

Race 1
The fav Pressure Point has been well supported his last two runs and now gets the Candyman in the irons , blinkers are added and he is my first choice. The Kannemeyer stable has been a little flat in Durban and has a R400 000 debutante and could be anything.
Race 2
Vaan's Spirit is my first choice and I feel they race is quite open if you look beyond her , my roughie is Juliet Tango.
Race 3
Paris Fun should be watched in the previous race due the travelling Peter stable, the raiding parties from the stable can blow hot n cold. However Father Christmas appears to be the one to beat but I'm happy to try and take him on with Trippis Silk whose move to Natal seems to have perked him up .
Race 4
Royal Sword is one of my better bets of the day and despite top weight should be right there.
Race 5
Tough rave with many expected to improve their recent form, Kavady though appeals to me a little but very open.
Race 6
Doesyourmotherknow is teh only filly in this race but gets pole position, she could give them the slip, however the Goosen stable is in good form and I like Erik Dubois to be finishing off well.
Race 7
An excellent field of runners for the Gold Challenge , See it Again is enjoying a ricj vein of form and heads the betting in a very open race. I like two , Tin Pan Alley and Legal Council, but phew it's a beauty of a race.
Race 8
Mon Petit Cherie is my first choice but she is drawn widest so she isn't a confident choice.
Race 9
Regulation is my first choice but a fair amount of people are talking this one up which sometimes leads to a flat tyre , the race is very open if you look beyond the top one.
Race10
I'm not an Azzie stable fan and he doesn't normally do very well with his raiders, however Summer Winter could buck the trend and put her last start behind her.
Play well comrades

G3 - Henry Harvey @ 14/1 ew. cracks a good draw for a change and female jock goes well for yard.
G5- Perfect Sky @ 6/1 ew. maybe not stable elect but i like the breeding and good formline from debut run against boys.
G6 - Doesyourmotherknow @ 9/1 ew. yard one i'm following this season and should be speedy from pole.
G7 - to follow, think there's an upset here.
G8 - to follow, need to look at formlines a bit more.
G9 - La Pulga @ 6/1 ew, my best bet of the day.

R6 Nibble at Fire Chief at around 8/1, top local trainer, nice win on debut, will need to step up on that big time but perhaps going up to 1400 will do he trick
R7 The Real Prince currently at around 4/1. Last season they went straight to the July after the Drill Hall. Whether that means he will still be in need of this I'm not sure but as Coil mentioned yard has been pretty quiet and I expect that to turn at some point.
R8 Quickstepgal at around 2/1, hope price drifts, questions over the ideal trip for some of these but not this one, 3rd run back from WCP and hopefully spot on for this
R9 JP has already been booked to ride Regulation in the July and as Jacques mentioned still needs a boost to the MR to get a run which I guess explains the short price here. Will take him on with Field Marshall each way at around 8/1 who is in a similar position and comes ut well on some weight turnarounds with a few o these, Fourie up another plus
R10 Lonely as a Cloud at around 3/1 is a model of consistency despite not having won for the best part of a year, small win bet here
Enjoy guys, thanks a million

G8 - Rachel Wall @ 10/1 ew. like her name ran into a wall last time out when stuck behind a few others, then flew home for 3rd behind stablemate. i think she has a handy mass here and the 1400m could suit.
G7 - have tied myself up in circles on this field, really anything could win, will throw some pennies at Jet Force @ 45/1 ew, just think it all went wrong last time out, drawn out on south beach, wide throughout, sweating, cut into, and not disgraced in the end.
good racing.
