All Racing tips w/c 31st August

I had a very average week on the horses but there were some good blows landed by South and Jacques on the forum.

This week's schedule below

Had an early look at Wednesday's Durbanville card, 6 maiden races with some well bred 1st timers and varying degrees of encouragement in the stable comments, quite a few back from a break and gelding ops etc..  and not much collateral form. Settled on these 3 in the end and will leave it there.

Race 5 Godric Gryffindor at 4/1, back from a break after gelding. Has run behind some above average types and if gelding has the desired effect he ought to be involved.
Race 7 Pushing Limits at 9/2. Ran a cracker against stronger last time, off 109 days since but was also returning from a break when winning over C&D previously
Race 8 Chinwag at 13/10, boasts the best form on offer which came in listed company at this track and drawn 1 is another plus

Very nice looking card as Chris mentioned. Great to watch to get a better feeling for the upcoming Cape season and further. Not so easy to bet though!!!!

Race 1 - Tons of money for Its Coming Home from 33/1 to 9/2. Stealth nibbled from 14/1 to 11/1 finished 6.5 lengths behind Rich Man's World before being rested. Trainer comment: Fit and Well. Watch if there is more money come race time. Workingclasshero (5/1) was found blowing after his debut run, can feature with natural improvement to come. I'm not that worried about him jumping widest of all as jockey Richard Fourie has all the class and experience to negotiate it. 
Boxed SW 3x9x12

Race 2 - Winter Blossom (27/20) went down by a length to a fancied Snaith runner on debut. Should be hard to beat. Sabre Wing (34/10) was a nostril behind Winter Blossom that day and should be close again. Invitation Only (16/1) is half sister to Randolph Hearst, should need further on breeding. Mosaic World (3/1) last seen early July when nearly 6l behind Alice B Toklas in a listed race. I feel she will be better over further..

Race 3 - Miss Arizona (17/20) finished strongly when 2nd behind Merriment last time out. Summer Lake (28/1) wasn't far behind the now scratched Jack A Dandy on debut and could place at nice odds.

Race 4 - A treat to watch with all of Red Hot Rifle (39/20), Wreath Of Snow (24/10) and Time Of Our Lives (9/2) rated by their stables. R9 million purchase, Wreath Of Snow (24/10) was reported to need his first run and should be a lot fitter today. Step up in trip will suit as well. Daley Park (33/1 26/10 Top 4 place) looks a nice inclusion for quartets.

Race 5 - Big City Roller (6/10) just finished up short when backed on debut.  Miyabi King (36/10) was carded to race a couple of weeks ago. Theres been a lot of talk for him, he could be anything.

Race 6 - Escarpment (19/1) with only 50.5 kgs on his back screams value! He receives 9.5kgs from Cork Bay (6/10) who has been a beaten favorite in his last 3 runs. Not much between the two on collateral form. 

Race 7 - El Cohete (36/10) is a difficult filly. De Melo has ridden her before, taking on winners won't be easy but she can be competitive should she pitch up. Her best run was on good going. I thought Gravity (16/1) also has a chance at the weights, but he hasn't gone well for apprentice Jodhee placing only once in six rides. 

Race 8 - Chinwag (8/10) found one better last time when beaten a nose by Golden Shimmer. For those chasing value for swingers, trifectas, quartets etc: Sign Of Spring (12/1) wasn't far behind Spurious (11/2) and has more scope for improvement. Gimme Perfect (28/1) is improving with every run, jockey Noach knows her well, could place.

Nice swingers to open and close Durbanville Jacques, that first one was an absolute beaut 

Vaal on Thursday, Although I've only gone for one of his runners on Thursday it might be an idea to keep Lucky's horses on side, this meeting and anything for next week as well. He is relocating to Randjies soon, sure to want to go out with a winner in his own backyard. Playing around these.

Race 2 Piteraq at 13/2, back from a break and with a new yard after a suspension, if not in need of the run  WCP form would suggest can pick up race of this nature 
Race 6 Itsnowornever at 9/2, at its highest MR but ticks a few boxes with the services of an in form 4kg claimer, c&d winner, back up in trip and down in class.
Race 7 Force Publique at 7/1 may have needed latest and de Melo retains the ride, MR starting to come down 
Race 8 Sunset Warrior at 10/1. Excuses last time when nibbled at, rating 1 point below last winning mark, generally running in stronger races, a player on best form

Thanks Chris, well done with Chinwag and Godric Gryffyndor, who despite being declared a non-runner, is one to follow next time. A bit disappointed with Winter Blossom's run as she was in trouble a long way out. Winner Sabre Wing certainly deserved the win and is one to follow the coming months especially as he steps up in trip. 

Vaal Thursday:

Race 1 - Elegant Edge (9/2, 11/20 Top 3 place) finished 4th behind Master's Lady despite being found not striding out and blowing post-race. Apprentice Marx-Jacobson retains the ride and represents better value than favorite, Periodic Table (8/10) for me. Yards only runner for the day. 

Race 2 - The line came just too quick for Midnight Special (11/20) who made up ground after a bad start in the same race as Elegant Edge behind Master's Lady. She's had now two time winner, Caladrius behind her twice so no shortage of form. Open past him. Piteraq (11/1) as Chris mentioned represents value. Dash Eight (15/4) finished 3rd behind two nice fillies on debut. Behind her that day, was one Master's Lady! The Stenger yard normally peaks later in summer, but wont be surprised to see her give the favorite a scare. Amadioo (36/10) drops in trip, can improve on debut. Mary's Captain (40/1) 2nd run after a 9 month rest. Comes from the Splittheeights form line. SW/EX 5x2

Race 3 - Prince Ivar (5/1 E/W) no run when fancied on debut behind Fish Tales, who came out and won a Gr 2 on Gold Cup day. Step up in trip should suit. Noble Saint (24/10) returns from a 105 day rest. He had 3 subsequent winners ahead of him when 4th on debut. 

Race 4 - Go For Broke (1/3) odds says everything. Holds Northern European (15/2) and should finish ahead of Knockin' Boots (7/2) with natural improvement to come. There was a nibble on Alittlebitoflove (28/1) on debut (and for today 28/1 into 23/1 back to 28/1) 5 months ago when losing 2 lenghts at the start and running no race against stablemates Viking Lass and Alice B Toklas. She hasn't raced since but could be anything if fit and ready. 

Race 5 - Small field, all 5 runners with claims. Art Nouveau (29/20) hasn't missed the quartet in 6 runs over 2000m but seems held at the weights by Azaleas For All (25/20). Willing to take my chances on Art Nouveau who ran as recently as Sunday and seems to not be on her best on the TF inside track.

Race 6  - Itsnowornever (5/1) looks the right one as Chris mentioned. Taking swingers with Thambi (11/1) who has a positive 2kg swing for a 3.8l beating by Itsnowornever on their run on 31 March over C&D. SW 1x9 

Race 7 - Again agree with Chris on Force Publique (7/1). The Houdalakis double with Go For Broke works out a touch under 10/1

Race 8 - Open race with a few way down in ratings. On A Jet Plane (8/1) won well when tipped a week ago, but jockey Jason Gates jumps ship to Spy Story (5/1 E/W) who ran a good 2nd over 1400m last time. He is having his peak run after a rest, trainer/jockey combo in hot form and does have some way earlier form over C&D. Sea Shanty (4/1) holds a few at the weights but not much between her and Chris' shrewd pick Sunset Warrior (9/1). Yards only runner for the day as well. Let's try boxed SW again. 2x8x9

Thanks Jacques, all the best for the Vaal. Update for Friday, Fairview switched from turf to poly. Had some conent up but a chunk of it will need revising now. If I get chance will do by Friday morning. if not will just focus on Greyville (turf) where I'm with the following ....


Race 2 Go Johnny Go at 10/1. Far from straight forward and off 239 days but 2nd of 3 runs at the Vaal is about the best piece of form on offer.
Race 4 Rikkitikkitavi at 28/10. Lightly raced mare who beat 2 of these last time out. Although less favourably weighted now she was returning from a long break that day and is taken to confirm the form from draw 1.
Race 5 Taylor’s Version at 28/10. Disappointed last time, given another chance in this grade based on good penultimate run under today’s 2.5kg claimer
Race 6 Scarlet Macaw at 7/2. Trip maybe a question mark but looks the class act in the field
Race 8 Dancing Party at 7/2. Looks the pick of the yard’s 3 runners based on impressive last win. Handicapper took no chances but still early days and it’s possible there is still some blue sky in the new rating

thanks guys great picks and thoughts as always.

i will try one today - V3 Platinum Shay @ 14/1 ew. ran against winners last time out, but it's some of her 2yr old form that catches the eye - running against gr1 sorts such as alice b toklas, get up, secretary bird etc. Her best recent outing 3 runs back has had the form franked last week winner coming out and claiming a MR80 against the boys. Some doubts on the distance today but no harm done at the price, will hopefully get some bigger odds close to race.

Great winner with Itsnowornever cruising in Chris. Piteraq and Sunset Warrior both runner-up in their respective races, places paying well. Art Nouveau, Spy Story and the swinger with Sunset Warrior saved what would have been a disastrous day for me. Some horrible results earlier in the day. No finish from Elegant Edge, Midnight Special horrible run despite jumping on terms. Prince Ivar another no show. Go For Broke well beaten. Hope punters got some of the Go For Broke x Alittlebitoflove swingers.

We nearly hit all three swingers in the last with Sea Shanty finishing 4th. Can't believe Spy Story jumped 6/1 (R9.60 on the tote) as Peace Treaty boosted his form on a line through Zip Code in the previous race.

A strange day Jaques, one for "could have been" drawer.

Have gone back to look at Fairview now on the poly, not quite the rip it up and start again exercise I feared although small stakes now on these (especially Rhydian  can't believe I'm still unable to kick that habit but I swear as soon as I brass him he wins

Race 2 Time Honoured at 33/10. Now a 5yo makes ECP debut, all form is on turf in stronger races than this so ? against surface change but lets see.
Race 4 Past And Present at 5/2. May have needed the latest of 3 runs on the poly and should strip fitter now
Race 5 Redlight Lane at 2/1. Has been running on over shorter and step up to the mile could see her crack her maiden
Race 6 Rhydian at 7/2. Expensive to follow with only win from 19 starts coming 479 days ago, risky proposition but perhaps today is the day.
Race 7 Danish Dynamite at 9/2. May have needed latest, 1 from 1 over c&d, narrow vote with Zackey up in a good race

Looking ahead seems plenty of rain forecast for Friday ahead of Saturday's Turffontein meeting 

glad your swingers got you out of a big hole Jacques. Some favourites went missing today and when they did it they were well beaten. I need to find replay to see what happened to the lucky/lerena 3/10 shot.

race 7 - Scotts Wae Hae @ 7/2. Messed the start last time out, gavin on board back to make amends.

 

Looking ahead to Saturday at Turffontein (inside track), I'm playing for soft ground with some of these


Race 3 Nicci’s Law at 7/2, decent enough debut after relocating from WCP where best runs were with some cut which could be a plus today.
Race 4 Command Pilot at 11/2. Only 1 point above last winning mark, has won over c&d and 3rd run back from a lengthy break with Lerena up.
Race 6 I’m A Fireball at 5/1. Has won twice in the wet so watch the going, light mass, well drawn although it’s a very competitive race
Race 8 Traditional Belief at 9/2. Ran well for a long way on return and should come on for that, still unexposed after just 5 runs and has won in wet

Will also take as a win dbl with Scott’s Wae Hae @ 29/1.

Cannot believe it, got 15/2 Next of Kin 5 min before off, and seen he was even bigger on Hollywood who own the horse! Absolutely cruised home, this appie is a goldmine! 

got the 15/2 into SP for Scott’s Wae Hae later on for the double. 

and Chris 3 winners on the trot in PE, very nice! 

I missed out yesterday as a few that I have put up before won or placed at decent odds. Apprentice Mosaheb had another superb night. Missed out on United Offer who was 5 points down in rating and had the advantage of a 4kg claimer who is in top form. No use in crying over spilled milk!

Chris well done with Rhydian, Redlight Lane and Danish Dynamite at Fairview and Taylor's Version at Greyville. Southpaw also nice win with Next Of Kin again the in form Mosaheb. 

Will post Turffontein soon, watch for weather as Chris mentioned.

Turffontein Inside

Race 1 - Champagne Air (28/10) bred to go further so step up in trip will do no harm. Readers will know by now that I always take notice of the Magner/de Melo combo. This horse has had two nice educational runs and could get it right today. Empress of Peace (15/4) I thought would have won last time out but has now had 2 subsequent winners behind her in her last 2 runs. Respect for Celtic Manor (13/20) who returns from a short rest, but not at these short odds for me.

Race 2 - Disdain (21/10) is one kg worse off with Uncle Bob (12/10) beating him by a length earlier. Lightly raced Disdain should have more scope for improvement. That said, Uncle Bob has been consistent since and just went down to Future Red over this distance a couple of weeks ago.

Race 3 - Lanteri (17/2) finished runner-up against winners at Greyville last time. Many with chances, E/W bet. 

Race 4 - Gran Canaria (35/1 E/W) ran a length behind Native Ruler when still a maiden.He runs off a low weight today, jockey Jason Gates is also having a nice run of form and could surprise if finding best form. Command Pilot (11/2) peak run after a rest. Won over C&D earlier.

Race 5 - Fostinovo (36/10) is bang in form with 2 wins and 4 runner-up spots from 6 runs in Gauteng since the start of the year. He enjoys the inside track and will have the run of the race from draw 2. Stables only runner on the day. Bay Empire (9/2), Brave Waam (6/1), Redlightgreenlight (34/10) and Ain't No Doubt (9/2) all up in rating but not without a chance. Satyagraha (8/1) with the apprentice claim also a runner.

Race 6 - Parisian Walkway (33/10) down in rating and should turn it around with Money Heist (39/20) at the weights. Third run after a rest. Respect for Cosmic Speed (7/2) who has been contesting GR 1 & 2 races of late. Could be a runner despite carrying top weight. SW 1X8

Race 7 - Time Will Tell (3/1) good run against stronger last time. Wasn't penalised for that run and holds a few at the weights. 

Race 8 - Little Boy Blue (7/2) relocates to the in-form Peter yard. He has dropped 22 points in rating since the start of the year. Wasn't far off in his penultimate run on the Greyville poly. Jockey Kabelo Matsunyane in great form with 5 winners and 2 places from his last 7 rides. Sakura Hanami (9/2) hung on to beat Trompe L'Oeil last time. Both horses that beat her in her 2 runs before that, came out to win their next starts as well. 

Found a couple yesterday, on to Sunday at Durbanville, trying these


Race 4 Mente Et Manu at 9/4. Consistent performer, 2nd in last starts, should be right there with Fourie up
Race 6 Kituba at 28/10. Lightly raced so scope for improvement, form lines franked and gate 1 another plus
Race 7 Phantom Man at 9/4, holds a number of these on last run when drawn wide, gate 1 today
Race 8 Star World at 19/10, 2 x c&d winner , 3rd run back from a break with Fourie up
Race 8 Absolutely Yes at 8/1. Excuses last time, repeat of penultimate run when touched off over c&d would see him involved

Another two great winners with Nikki's Law and I'm A Fireball yesterday Chris. Not my best day but will continue to follow Gran Canaria who I think is not far away from finding the winners box again.

Competitive Durbanville card, still studying.

Race 1 - Ras El Hanout (13/1) is a full brother to Hah Lah Lah. Fine Silver (12/1) half brother to One Stripe. Moonrise (22/1) related to Tomyris and Fast Train. Kruyer yard started the season well and could be anything with de Melo riding. Drawn widest of all.

Race 2 - Gunner Galactico (17/10) had three subsequent winners behind him on debut. Looks the best of the raced runners. Good comments for Swaziland (11/1)

Durbanville
Race 4 - Not much between It's My Time (11/2) and Mente Et Manu (22/10) at the weights. Jockey Kabelo Matsunyane in great form of late, worth an e/w shot as a top 3 place is priced at evens.

Race 5 - Lovers Lane (7/1) form of last race is strong, gets the services of Craig Zackey, who has won on him before. Enjoys Durbanville as well. Last win was over C&D

Race 8 - Raffish Trend (13/2) 2 wins from 5 runs over C&D. Reunited with Craig Zackey, who has won thrice on him before. 

Race 9 - Oliver (28/1) loves Durbanville having not missed the places in all 11 runs at the course to date. 3 wins at the course were over 1400m. Nice top 4 places bet @ 11/4. Should pay very well on the tote for those chancing a top 3 place in a very competitive race.
