Spain + France + England to maOke the Quarter Finals @5.25
Out of interest, where did you manage to place that bet Quill?
I seem to be struggling to find a bookie that will allow me to pair up multi's for respective teams to reach the quarters.
Bet365
Much appreciated!

Mexico v South Africa, Thursday's opening match preview  is available here

Although I think it will be tough going I'm not quite as pessimistic about Bafana's chances here. Mexico have some good prep results whilst SA's were poor but not sure that Mexico squad should be feared.

Punchers chance for a draw at 7/2 but will probably take most of these early matches to small stakes.

For anyone in SA that likes to bet on player props for the world cup, such as goalscorer, player shots, fouls, cards, etc, I see that Sunbet is offering a Super Sub feature now. Similar to how it is overseas with bet365 and Paddy Power, if your player gets subbed without completing the specific line, the betslip is still active as the bet is transferred to the substitue player.

Seems a nice feature for those that are actually not limited at Sunbet

Very little enthusiasm for the World Cup ATM. Almost zero jeopardy for any above average team to get out of the group has definitely not helped, and  going through the seemingly endless amount of betting markets feels like a real chore. I'm planning on doing most of my betting on a day to day basis, but betfair exchange over some big prices on the top scorer outrights.

Haaland top scorer @ 18/1 - great form for Country, Norway also like they might get a fairly decent route to the quarters. Should be involved in the majority of Norway goals.

Raphinha top scorer @ 29/1 ew - don't think Brazil can win it but will play offensive football. Could score a load of goals in the group stage against Hati and Scotland.

Doku top scorer @ 129/1 ew - absolutely massive price ( next best is around 60/1 ). Belgium have little chance of beating one of the big teams, but their group is by far the easiest and the route to the quarters looks potentially decent.

The winner of every WC thus far had been coached by a local born coach. Eliminates quite a few teams if one pays a lot of attention to this stat. I asked AI to give me all the teams at this years tournament with a local born coach and this was the answer:

Argentina, Australia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Cape Verde Islands, Croatia, Czechia, Egypt, France, Germany, Ghana, Iran, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, Scotland, Senegal, South Korea & Switzerland.

Argentina Outright 21/2 @ BetXchange appeals.

@ JT
can't fully trust these Artificial Insemination guys
What about Spain? and even Ivory Coast
  • Spain: Luis de la Fuente was born in Haro, Spain. He is a textbook home-born appointment who spent decades coaching Spain's youth national teams before stepping up to lead the senior squad to their Euro 2024 trophy.
  • Ivory Coast (Côte d'Ivoire): Emerse Faé holds Ivorian citizenship and represents the country internationally, though his background has a slight technical twist. He was actually born in Nantes, France, to Ivorian parents. He played for France at the youth level but chose to represent the Ivory Coast at the senior international level (even playing for them in the 2006 World Cup). Because he is an Ivorian citizen who played for the national team and took over to lead them to their recent Africa Cup of Nations glory, footballing-wise, he is proudly counted as one of their own!

Thanks @ Kompos. Yeah can't fully trust this AI. I even asked it to verify this using reputable sites like soccerway, transfermarket etc. and it still missed Spain and Ivory Coast. Happy with those odds on Argentina. Spain a big runner for tournament winner.

I've NEVER seen this - of course I don't check soccer betting that often, but this is crazy
compared to 104.4% to the next best and worse from the fleecers
