All Racing Tips w/c 14th September

No local racing on Monday or Tuesday this week, the schedule for the rest of the week is as follows:

Wednesday Durbanville
Thusday Vaal
Friday, Fairview and Greyville
Saturday Turffontein
Sunday Scottsville

Had a poor time of it on the horses last week so looking for a bounce back. Plenty of copy to follow and all this week's racing tips are most welcome here

No betting out yet, but all of Bad Medicine, Gimmethatworldcup, Anotherdanceforme and Golden Palm in action at Fairview on Friday.

Wednesday weather forecast not great so hoping they race at Durbanville, picked out a few below, most have proven they handle wet, competitive card by the look it

Race 4 Wehaveasituation each way at 14/1. Hinted at a return to form last time, 1 point above last winning mark and handles cut.
Race 5 United Front at 4/1. Good win latest on return to WCP, not overly punished by handicapper and 2 from 2 over c&d. Big player if he can overcome the widest gate
Race 6 Red Flag at 3/1. Fluent win to get out of the maidens last time out. More needed here but plenty of scope for improvement and quite possible there could be some blue sky in the merit rating of 80
Race 7 Gold Dust at 7/1, backed and ran a gallant 2nd last time, good record in wet and jumps from gate 1
Race 8 Pink Pigeon at 5/2. Holds a number of these on 15th August run at Kenilworth, also goes well this course, handles cut and drawn 4 with de Melo up.

D8 - Trois Sept Huit @ 13/2 ew. I like the jockey booking, gavin down for a few rides and staying until last, with good form for yard. TSH has a great turn of foot, i think could be better on straight but last time out lost a lot of ground at start and just ran out of it final 100m.

D4 - Baton Rouge @ 7/1 ew. horse seems to be in a good place and likes the ground, hoping can get the hatrick in same division. 
 

My plays for Vaal on Thursday

Race 4 Force Publique at 5/1. Having his 3rd run after a break, was backed in both previous efforts, de Melo retains ride, MR dropping
Race 7 Rock My Boat at 33/10. Went close last time in a stronger race for talented appy who retains the ride
Race 8 Salute The Flag at 7/2. Another one dropping in class, significant jockey booking of Lerena
Race 9 Mount Pinatubo at 9/2. Only runner on the day for a powerful yard, first time at this course but has won 3 from 8 over this trip.

chris we've both been absolutely stiffed in that last race, both jocks nowhere to go and really one of TSH or PP should have got up. 

Urgh, really liked that one. Profit on race from places, both those 2 firmly in the watch-book for next time out.

Just seen the replay South, money came for TSH too, next time mate,

Quite a few scratchings at the Vaal Thursday but my picks are in tact. Looing ahead to Friday Fairview is now on the poly and looks like plenty of rain forecast for Durbs so wondering if Greyville may also switch from turf. Will hold off on that meeting for a while.

Update for Friday Greyville also switched to poly.

Fairview on Friday (also poly), not really my sort of card, quite a few odds on fav's who I'm not sure who to oppose with and in the other races I quite fancy the fancied runners. Any how, playing around these.


Race 3 Secret Eruption at 9/4. Steps up to 2000m from a mile, has been improving with every run and proven on poly.
Race 7 Winter In London at 2/1. Relocates from KZN where he has been running in much stronger company. Has to give weight all round and overcome a 65 day absence but could well be up to the task
Race 8 Clara Lume at 33/10. Ignore latest, won maiden over c&d 3 starts ago and form of good penultimate run after that has been franked

Greyville now on Sunday (not Friday) and on poly not turf, sticking with a couple of original picks from turf form 

Race 5 Beyond All Doubt at 4/1. Holds a couple of fancied rivals on 11th April run here. Upped in grade for last 2 runs which were decent and looks a player despite gate 9 but switch to poly is unknown terriory
Race 7 Cleartherunway at 4/1. Good effort returning from a break last time out and should strip fitter today. First look at the poly after switch of surface.
Race 8 Overnight at 9/2.  Has won on the poly, lightly raced, up in trip, holds a few of these on 28th August turf form

Fairview Friday some very short priced favorites. Difficult card to really punt.

Race 2 - Chancing a small E/W Two Places on Firealley (6/1) who has been consistant in earning a stake cheque on the poly of late. Racing fit and has a victory in the Algoa Cup and over Zatara Magic on his resume. Bad Medicine (4/10) obviously the horse to beat and in excellent form since the start of the year with 6 wins from 7 runs. He is up 28 points in rating in that time and should hold Firealley on paper. Box EX 1x2

Race 4 - Obsidian Star (22/10) good form over C&D and rated by the stable. Probably held by Gimmethatworldcup (5/10) on a line through Casperita. Just feel that Gimmethatworldcup would be better over further and could be vulnerable today.

Race 5 - Enchanting Choice (11/20 top 3 place) Won only start over C&D. Just better value than taking the 4/10 win on Anotherdanceforme who has won all 10 of her local starts in PE. I prefer bigger fields for SW so EX 2x5

Race 6 - Golden Palm (17/20) the class of the race but not for me at this price over a distance way too short. Song Of Myself (15/4) two wins and a 2nd in 3 starts over C&D. Well weighted and should turn it around with Genovefa (17/2) who is another with excellent C&D form, winning 3 and placing twice in 5 starts. 

Race 7 - Chief Runner (11/1 e/w) Value bet of the meeting. Carries lowest weight in the race with in form Jason Gates taking the ride. Backed last 4 starts, jumping of lowest MR of his career. Won maiden over C&D.

Race 8 - Japanese Garden (17/1 e/w) - Down 20 points in the last year. Not penalised for finishing a good 2nd behind Carnival, who seems one to follow, last time out. Also finished under 2l 2nd behind Exceedingly Glam a few starts ago. Carries only 51.5kg.  

Friday's planned meeting for Greyville which was switched from turf to poly has been postponed till Sunday. the scheduled meeting for Scottsville on Sunday has been pushed back a day to Monday 21st September

Turffontein Saturday, tricky card, smallish fields, best I could come up with below


Race 5 African Prince at 4/1. Comes up against some less exposed rivals but has been super consistent. Fourie has twice been beaten by 0.2l on this ride and will look to make amends today
Race 7 Aint No Doubt at 33/20. With just 5 runs (1 win, 2 places) under his belt and this being his 3rd run since a gelding there is more scope for improvement compared to his market rivals.
Race 9 Wayne at 6/1. Stable is double handed and both have chances in a competitive race but this consistent sort could be the answer to a tricky puzzle

Mediocre day yesterday with only Obsidian Star arriving although drifting to 4/1. Had the wrong Strydom and Kaknis horses in races 2 and 7 respectively. 

Small stakes at Turffontein today. Also fancy Ain't No Doubt

Race 1 - Razzpath Rebel (3/1) finished very well on debut. Seems to need further but with natural improvement, should be a big runner. 

Race 2 -  All the talk is for Timeless (13/20) who is highly rated by his stable and gets the services of Richard Fourie, who is in JHB for a few rides mainly for the Magner stable. Timeless returns from nearly 5 months rest, but stable comments suggests he shouldn't need it too much. My e/w goes to Raptor King (34/10) who returns from gelding and a 3 month rest. He comes from very strong formlines, with 2nd to 5th from his maiden also having won their maidens since.

Race 4 - Storm Avalanche (25/20) placed behind Alice B Toklas and Royal Tiara as a juvenile. All depends on how fit and ready she is. Steps up to 1450m for the first time.

Race 6 - Fire 'n Flames (7/1 e/w) weighted to finish in front of favorite, Palace Prince. Drumnadrochit won only start at this track, but seems to be aiming for bigger races and should be at her best over further.

 

Honda lads , I have a spare 30 minutes before I have to mow the lawn , one thing about the UK , as soon as the seasons change the grass and weeds grow overnight , it's incredible. GRRRRR. 

Race 1
Van Vuuren stable not firing as well as they were but I do like Teneriffe to get us off to a good start.

Race 2
Loads of support for Timeless , I'll be trying to beat him with the Tarry filly , Light in the Woods.

Race 3
I wouldn't be storming the beaches to take odds on Jimmy Vega but trying to find which first timer is difficult , on breeding and stable I'll lean towards Secret Getaway.

Race 4
Storm Avalanche tough to beat , price not too enticing atm though,  Empress is the sole danger IMO

Race 5
Going to give African Prince one last time.

Race 6
With Jacques , poor old Fire n Flames tries hard but I think the handicapper has been very cruel to him over the seasons.

Race 7
My best bet Guerilla Warfare , I'm all in.

Race 8
Don't like this race but Longsword is an old flame and will follow. 

Race 9
An open end to things , Secret Chord should give us a good run for our money .

After gradually leaking back Coil gets me into the money with Secret Chord in the last 

Nice stuff there @Brent Graham, glad Raptor King held on and got us off to a good start. Was surprised to see him jump 5/1 as his form lines are really strong. Seems it was a fun day at the races.

@Coil great stuff with Secret Chord in the last at odds of 14/1. St.John Gray yard just keeps firing. 

It was an enjoyable day 

We went down to the parade ring for race 6 and there was a filly who stood out to my wife, daughter and I, namely DRUMNADROCHIT

She seemed to tower over the other horses and we had to back her on sheer appearance (none of us really knowing what to look for in the parade ring) and it paid off as she absolutely cruised home 

Just the following for me today:

Race 3 - Danube (3/1) well treated at the weights. Two runs over C&D for a win and a 2nd.

Zagreb and Bangkok Magic the two talking horses for the day.
Pick 3 Races 3 - 5: 6x8x6
