This week marks the final event of the FedExCup Fall Series, and with cards and status on the line, pressure will be sky-high. The PGA Tour heads to Sea Island Golf Club in Georgia for the RSM Classic, where we’ll take a look at the action from a betting angle and put forward a few selections to consider.

The Course

This week’s tournament is played over two courses at Sea Island: the Seaside Course and the Plantation Course. Both sit close to the Atlantic coastline and are exposed to the elements, with wind often the main defence.

  • Plantation Course – A more traditional parkland-style layout, measuring 7,160 yards (6,550 metres). Tree-lined in places with water in play on several holes, it rewards solid driving and precise approaches, especially on softer, more receptive greens.
  • Seaside Course – A links-influenced design at 7,005 yards (6,405 metres), more open and visually exposed, with marshland, water hazards and run-offs ready to catch any loose shot. When the breeze is up, trajectory control and strong iron play become vital, and the smaller, quicker greens place a premium on putting and short game.

Players will typically play one round on each course before the cut, with the weekend action contested on Seaside, so those comfortable in windy, coastal conditions and adept with wedges and the flat stick usually rise to the top.

Brian Harman                  23.00

Michael Thorbjornsen  23.00

J.T. Poston                           29.00

With plenty of players still fighting for position, there’s good each-way value in the mid-range, especially on those with strong coastal form or course history.

SELECTIONS:

Alex Smalley at 34.00

While others struggled in last weeks extremely difficult conditions, Smalley managed to put in a really solid result as he finished in 3rd place. This would be his second top 5 finish in his last three starts. With so much on the line come the end of the season, being in form is key and with two top 5 finishes in three rounds, I think we will see another solid result from Smalley this weekend.

Pierceson Coody at 46.00

Coody was another player last weekend who managed to battle through the conditions to put in a good result. He finished in 22nd place after shooting one under in the last round to finish a total of three under. Coody has also been on a solid run of form. In his last five events he has one top 25, two top 15s and a 3rd place finish. With this form I think we will see his name near the top of the leaderboard this weekend.

Mackenzie Hughes at 51.00.

A Sea Island specialist. In his last four starts at the RSM Classic, Hughes has three top-5 finishes, including two runner-up results and a 5th-place finish last year. He also lifted the trophy here back in 2016, underlining just how well this venue suits his eye. With that course record, he has to be respected at this price.
