I decided to dip my toes into the NPC last weekend, only to have them chopped off. I reckon the moment I made that the newsletter play poor old Understakers bet was poisoned.
Overall, though, it wasn’t a bad weekend. New Zealand’s late try delivered the over 22.5 points, although, ironically (and I didn’t know it at the time) it also cost me the 10/1 accumulator highlighted in last week’s newsletter.
It was a great performance from South Africa, and they head into the fourth and final Test in Baltimore tonight with a 2–1 series lead.

WEEKEND PLAYS
There isn’t a great deal of rugby this weekend, so the focus is naturally on the two main games. I’m also looking forward to today’s Vuelta a España stage, which is one of the most brutal I’ve seen in a Grand Tour.

The race itself is far from over, mainly because of Pogačar’s unfortunate accident at the end of the opening week (I reckon he would have won todays stage by 5 min). We could still have a real battle in the mountains.
The youngster who has impressed me is Jakob Omrzel, who is just over a minute behind Oscar Onley in the white jersey competition. This is the sort of terrain where a minute can disappear very quickly, so I’m going to have a small nibble on him at 5/1 to finish as the top young rider.

Pumas to keep things tight!
The Currie Cup final is up first, and you can click here for the betting blog, where I’m once again setting myself up for a nerve-racking watch by taking under 60.5 points.
Conditions should be good in Kimberley. Much like backing the unders in a New Zealand match, you know you’re in for a stressful time, but I feel the Pumas will look to keep things tight and that the under is in play.

I seem to have missed the boat slightly with the unders in Baltimore, where there is some rain about and also talk of the pitch being a little narrower than usual.
The total opened at 59.5, but I dithered for too long and the best line I have seen is now 58.5. I’m going to hold fire on a points bet for the moment and will post any further bets in the South Africa v New Zealand preview.
Channelling my inner Oracle
I’m really looking forward to the Baltimore Test and have a feeling that the Springboks could finally fulfil The Oracle’s prophecy and put the All Blacks to the sword.
I’m taking an extended handicap which requires South Africa to win by 12 points or more.
