Last week was a poor one for me, even though I managed to find my fair share of winners. Unfortunately, my bigger bets went belly up, including the Stormers over 3.5 tries against the Lions and the Cheetahs letting me down against the Pumas.
I never really got involved in the second Test between South Africa and New Zealand, but I was happy to see the Springboks bounce back and level the series. That has set things up beautifully for what should be an absolute classic at FNB Stadium this weekend.
There are still some doubts about the weather, but I decided to go overs on New Zealand points at 22.5 earlier in the week.

THE HANDICAP
It felt like old times on The Handicap last night, with a full house featuring the three original guests who became involved back when South Africa was still playing in Super Rugby: Couch Critic, The Understaker and The Oracle, the names simply roll off the tongue.
Despite there not being too many matches to discuss, it turned into a fairly lengthy show (with Oracle there always a safe bet)

WEEKEND PLAYS
What are you doing at 09h10 tomorrow morning?
I will be glued to the screen to watch my first NPC match of the season. The reason is that I’m backing Waikato to beat Canterbury following Thursday night’s show, where The Understaker made a convincing case that the bookmakers have got this one wrong.

The forgotten art of the drop goal!
The points line in the Springbok match has started moving upwards, having started at 53.5. At the current line of 55.5, I would take a watching brief and keep a close eye on the weather forecast – as I type this the cold front is moving in and the rain has started
I have also put up a bet that will hopefully keep my interest until it either lands or the final whistle blows: a successful drop goal in the match at 6/1.
There has been no sign of a drop goal in the series to date, and I’m not going to claim that 6/1 represents value. It is, however, one of those bets that can be fun to play. If the match is tight, particularly given the state of the series, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu have a go.
