RACE 1
ETERNAL SPIRIT set the pace over 1200m last time, but found one too good in the form of Wild Star. The daughter of Master Of My Fate would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. She should get a good run in transit from Barrier Three and may be hard to peg back.
NEW DAY should have finished closer to the winner on debut as she hung inwards in the final 300m. The daughter of Canford Cliffs would have gained from the experience and should love the rise to 1300m. With the natural improvement that is expected, she should be competitive. TP
THUNDERCHILD should have finished closer last time as she was bumped at the 150m mark. Marco van Rensburg is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.
RACE 2
LOVE FROM AFAR is having his first outing in the Eastern Cape for Trainer Kelly Mitchley. A change of environment may be what he needs and he may enjoy racing on the polytrack. On best form shown in Cape Town, he can show good improvement.
PRETTY BOY showed good improvement when third in his stable debut over 1200m on this course. The son of Canford Cliffs has scope and may have more to come with Richard Fourie in the saddle. He is carded to race on 19 June 2026 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.
GIMMETHEGOLD has produced two creditable efforts since relocating to the Eastern Cape. He is having his peak run and should be cherry-ripe. With a bit of luck in running, he should be competitive.
RACE 3
LOTUS SILK is the top bet on the programme. She lost a length leaving the start over 1200m on this course last time, but finished off her race well. She has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this distance. She will strip much fitter and if getting away on terms, she can notch up her third-career victory.
DESERT CLOUD returns from a short eight-week break and is having her first outing for Dean Smith. She carries a handy galloping mass of 55kgs and may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
TOO LATE MY MATE finished 0.35 lengths behind DUPONT EMERALD last time. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She is carded to race on 19 June 2026 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.
RACE 4
GUTSY BABY ran on from last when fifth over 1400m on this course last time. The daughter of Vercingetorix will love the rise to 1600m. She gets the services of 2.5kgs claiming Apprentice Bavish Soodoo which will assist her cause. If not too far out of her ground turning for home, she can shed her maiden tag.
MADE TO MEASURE is having her first outing in the Eastern Cape for Trainer Alan Greeff. She gets the tongue-tie fitted for the first time. If settled into her new surroundings, she should be involved at the finish.
EXPLOSIVE GIFT has finished second in her last two starts over 1900m on this course. She is having her peak run and will be cherry-ripe. From her good draw of four, she should be competitive.
RACE 5
THIS OR THAT was super-impressive when winning on debut over this distance on the turf. She lost a length leaving the start, understandably raced green but showed a good turn of foot and drew clear of the opposition. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. She returns from a 10-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. The daughter of Real Gone Kid could be anything and can remain unbeaten.
GREENLIGHT DANCER has been taking on stronger company in her last two starts. She has dropped in the ratings and would not be a surprise winner.
VOORSMAAKIE ran a creditable race when fourth over 1400m on this course last time. She would have come on from the run and should strip fitter. With a bit of luck in running, she can earn another cheque
Race 6
CHERRY OH BABY was running on when 2 lengths behind FRENCH FLAME last time. If not too far out of her ground turning for home, she can notch up her fifth-career victory.
FRENCH FLAME won a good race over this C&D last time. He received a five-pound penalty for that victory. Apprentice Wilmien Fourie takes the 4kgs off his back and from his good draw of three, he merits healthy respect.
CHARLIE MALONE finished 2.25 lengths behind the second selection last time. He is 1.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result. He is having his peak run and will be cherry-ripe.
RACE 7
ARABIAN RED showed good signs of a form return when second over this C&D last time. She raced from a handy position, tried hard but found one too good in the form of Dupont Emerald. She takes a slight drop in class and if confirming her recent improvement, she can go one better.
FLOWER FESTIVAL fought hard when third over 1600m on this course last time. Two of her four career victories have come over this distance. She is likely to be settled near the rear of the field and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
ONCIDIUM finished 0.75 lengths behind the second selection last time. She is 3kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.
RACE 8
SAN QUINTIN’S last three starts have been good. He stayed on when third over 1900m on this course last time. The son of Dynasty drops back in class and jumps from pole position. He will be doing his best work late and can notch up his sixth-career victory.
WILD FIG stayed on when fifth over 1600m on this course last time. He should enjoy the rise to 2000m and from his good draw of two, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
DARLING GIRL has won her last two starts with ease, the latest of which was over 1900m on this course. She is likely to be settled near the rear of the field, will be running on and can bring up the hat-trick
