NewcastleSJPEnglish Premier League actions returns from an international break on Saturday, Manchester City's home game against Liverpool takes centre stage and we also look at the clash between Newcastle and Chelsea and Arsenal's trip to Brentford.

Man City 8/11 Draw 3.25/1 Liverpool 32/10

City top the log but they are only 1 point clear of Liverpool and Arsenal with Spurs 2 points back in fourth and Villa are 3 points adrift in fifth.

City went into the break on the back of a thrilling 4-4 draw with Chelsea, the first draw in a season which also comprises of 9 wins and 2 defeats. City have been foot perfect in front of their own supporters and against the stronger sides this season they have beaten Newcastle (1-0) and Brighton (2-1) in home fixtures, they beat United 3-0 in the derby at Old Trafford but lost 1-0 at Arsenal.

Liverpool are 6 wins from 6 at Anfield but they have dropped points away from home. To be fair they had VAR excuses in their only league defeat so far, 2-1 at Spurs, they played out a 1-1 draw at Chelsea on the opening weekend and drew 2-2 at Brighton but they tripped up in their most recent road trip when they needed an injury time goal to salvage a 1-1 draw at Luton.

City won this fixture 4-1 last season whilst Liverpool were 1-0 winners when the teams met at Anfield

The Verdict

It will be worth checking the team news with a whole host players having been spread worldwide on international duty and Haaland did pick up a minor knock playing for Norway. I think it could be closer than the betting suggests and to me the value in the match result market lies with the draw.

Newcastle 1.55/1 Draw 5/2 Chelsea 17/10

After losing 3 of their first 4 league matches of the season Newcastle went unbeaten in the next 7 but that run came to an end at Bournemouth last time out when they went down 2-0. A string of injuries to key players would go some way to explaining that defeat and they have slipped to seventh spot, 6 points behind fourth placed Spurs. After an impressive start in the UCL back to back defeats against Dortmund leave them with plenty to do to reach the last 16 ahead of a visit to PSG on Tuesday of next week.

Chelsea's last 2 matches were full of drama, the 4-4 draw at home to City which was preceded by a 4-1 win at Spurs who had 2 men sent off and 2 key players injured. Still, the goal rush is impressive after a start which was more miss than hit and they have also drawn with Arsenal and Liverpool at Stamford Bridge so form against top sides is good.

The Verdict

It will be worth checking the Newcastle team news to see how the injury list looks but I think might be something for Chelsea here although my preference is to back them to score at least twice. With a few games back from his own injury problems under his belt Reece James will hopefully pop up with a goal at a nice price.

Brentford 3.45/1 Draw 28/10 Arsenal 0.77/1

Brentford are in mid table after a run of 3 straight wins was halted by a 3-0 defeat at Anfield last time out. A total of 9 of their 16 points have been earned from 6 home fixtures and the highest placed visiting side to this venue are Spurs who drew 2-2 here on the opening weekend.

Arsenal's only league defeat this season came in their most recent road trip when they went down 1-0 at Newcastle. They have also drawn London derby matches at home to Fulham and Spurs and away at Chelsea, all by a 2-2 scoreline whilst 8 other league games have seen the Gunners take maximum points.

The Verdict

I can see Brentford being competitive but I won't be opposing Arsenal and I really like Saka in the anytime goalscorer market.

Bets: Anytime goalscorer Saka at 2.65/1 with BoyleSports
