liverpool1819English Premier League table toppers Liverpool are in action on Wednesday night when they take on Chelsea at Anfield

Liverpool

Liverpool return to league action having had a good week in cup football. They reached the EFL Cup Final with a 1-1 draw at Fulham last week to go through 3-2 on aggregate and at the weekend they were 5-2 winners at home to Norwich in the fourth round of the FA Cup. The Europa League knockout rounds also beckon but now the focus returns to the title race.

After a 4-0 win at Bournemouth in their most recent league outing Liverpool topped the EPL standings, 5 points clear of Man City, Arsenal and Villa. City, who have a game in hand, host Burnley on Wednesday whilst a day before this match Arsenal go to Forest and Villa host Newcastle.

Liverpool have lost just 1 league game all season, at Spurs back in September and at Anfield their record comprises of 8 wins plus draws with Man United and Arsenal.

Chelsea

Chelsea will face off with Liverpool in the EFL Cup Final after booking their ticket with a 6-1 hiding of Middlesbrough (6-2 on aggregate). At the weekend they drew an FA Cup tie at home to Villa 0-0 and they now bid for a fourth successive league win.

Chelsea had to dig deep to hold off Luton 3-2 in their most recent EPL away fixture which came either side of home wins against Palace (2-1) and Fulham (1-0). They have won 4, drawn 1 and lost 5 of their EPL road trips and currently occupy a mid table position all of 12 points off a top 4 spot.

Recent Head to Head

The first league meeting this season took place at Stamford Bridge on the opening weekend and it finished 1-1

Both of last season's league meetings finished without a goal

The Betting

At the time of writing Liverpool are trading at 6/10 to win the game with the draw priced at 33/10 and Chelsea can be backed at around 4/1

A game of 3 goals or more is priced at 9/20 and it's 11/20 for both teams to score

The Verdict:

Chelsea have improved although there isn't much in their away record to suggest they can turn Liverpool over.

I do believe there is a goal here for the visitors though and hence the price boost for Sterling to score any time against his former club caught my eye.

Bets: Anytime goalscorer Raheem Sterling, was 33/10 now boosted to 38/10 with Sportingbet
