Football Liverpool120Midweek sees two vital English Premier League matches in the title race as Manchester City host Brentford and Liverpool are at home to Luton

Man City 1 / 5 Draw 6.25/1 Brentford 12/1

City needed a late equalizer from Rodri to salvage a 1-1 at home to Chelsea at the weekend. Their performance was below what we have seen in recent weeks but they remain unbeaten at home. Still, results elsewhere meant City lost a bit of ground in the title race and they come into this game in third spot, 2 points behind second placed Arsenal with this game in hand. Liverpool, who host Luton on Wednesday (see below), are 4 points better off than City but they have also played 1 game more.

Brentford went down 4-1 at home to Liverpool on Saturday and at the time of writing (Everton play Palace on Monday) they were fourteenth with 6 points worth of daylight over the drop zone. Toney scored their consolation against Liverpool continuing his fine form and they did win their most recent road trip, 2-0 at Wolves.

The Verdict

The teams met at Brentford earlier this month and City were 3-1 winners with Foden scoring a hat trick. Brentford turned City over twice last season including a 2-1 win on this ground but given that most recent evidence they look up against it here to say the least.

Sportingbet are promoting a “Build a Bet” comprising of City to win, City to score over 1.5 goals and City to be awarded over 7.5 corners and I will take my chances with that

Bets: Build a Bet - City to win, City to score over 1.5 goals and City to be awarded over 7.5 corners at 13/10 with Sportingbet

Liverpool 1 / 5 Draw 13/2 Luton 12/1

Mo Salah came off the bench and scored in Liverpool's 4-1 win at Brentford but there was more bad news on the injury front. Team news will be worth monitoring as Liverpool were without goalkeeper Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Thiago and Szoboszlai and during the game Jota picked up a nasty looking injury and Jones and Nunez also picked up knocks. Liverpool were 3-1 winners over Burnley in their most recent home game and they have won 10 and drawn 2 of 12 EPL outings at Anfield.

Luton conceded 2 early goals in a 2-1 home defeat to Man United on Sunday. They will be watching the outcome of Monday's Everton v Palace clash as they finished the weekend fourth from bottom but just 1 point clear of Everton. Luton's most recent road trip delivered a thrilling 4-4 draw at Newcastle, they have won twice away from home, at Everton and Sheffield and Liverpool needed a very late equalizer for a 1-1 draw when the teams met at Kenilworth Road earlier in the season.

The Verdict

Liverpool are in great form but that injury news could be very concerning in a week where they will also face Chelsea in the EFL Cup final.

In all likelihood Klopp's team will be well below full strength but I'm still looking for a potential goalscorer a touch under the radar and Alexis Mac Allister, who I'm pretty sure will start, fits the bill.

Bets: Anytime goalscorer Alexis Mac Allister at 4/1 with Sportingbet
