FulhamFulham are 2-1 down to Liverpool heading into the second leg of their EFL Cup semi final which takes place at Craven Cottage on Wednesday

Fulham

A first half goal from Willian in an impressive first half display in the first leg at Anfield saw Fulham take a 1-0 lead into the break. However Liverpool improved in the second half and hit back to win 2-1.

Fulham beat Spurs on spot kicks after a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage in their first EFL Cup action. They went on to beat Norwich 2-1 in another home fixture before a 3-1 win away to Championship promotion contenders Ipswich. They were on Merseyside for a quarter final clash with Everton at Goodison and after a 1-1 draw Fulham held their nerve to come through on penalty kicks.

Fulham were also 1-0 winners at home to Championship strugglers Rotherham in the third round of the FA Cup recently. In the EPL Fulham are just below half way in the EPL standings with 24 points and they have lost 4 of their last 5 league games with a 2-1 home over Arsenal bucking the trend.

Liverpool

Liverpool goals from Jones and Gakpo in the space of 3 second half minutes have given Liverpool a slender lead. Since the first leg they have lost Salah and Endo to international duty and Alexander Arnold to injury. Their cup run began with a 3-1 win at home to Championship high flyers Leicester and they subsequently came away from Bournemouth with a 2-1 victory. That set up a quarter final clash with West Ham at Anfield and Liverpool coasted to a 5-1 win.

Liverpool have also progressed to the Europa League knockout rounds and after a 4-0 win at Bournemouth at the weekend they currently top the EPL standings, 5 points clear of Man City, Arsenal and Villa although City have a game in hand.

Liverpool scored 2 late goals in a 2-0 win away to Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup and they are still in the hunt for any or all of 4 trophies.

Recent Head to Head

The teams also met at Anfield in a league game as recently as 3rd December and Liverpool came from 3-2 down to edge it 4-3.

The Betting

At the time of writing Fulham are 32/10 to win the game with the draw at 3/1 and Liverpool can be backed at around 8/10

A game of 3 goals or more is priced at 6/10 and it's 13/20 for both teams to score

Above markets are for regulation time.

The Verdict

I can't remember too many recent occasions where Fulham were on the verge of reaching a major final and gut feel is they can cause Liverpool a few problems. Whether they can turn things around is another matter and Liverpool were impressive at Bournemouth at the weekend.

During the course of regulation time 2-3 goals in total looks attractive enough to me.
