arsenal1819The pick of this weekend's English Premier League fixtures comes from The Emirates on Sunday where Arsenal host league leaders Liverpool

Arsenal

Arsenal controlled all bar the dying moments of their 2-1 win at Forest in midweek and they finished the midweek program in third spot with 46 points, level on points with Man City (who have a game in hand) and 5 shy of their opponents here, league leaders Liverpool.

The Gunners demolished Palace 5-0 in their most recent home game which signalled a return to form after below par displays in defeats at home to West Ham (2-0) and away at Fulham (2-1) just before the turn of the year.

Liverpool

Liverpool thumped Chelsea 4-1 at Anfield on Wednesday, a result which flattered the visitors with Darwin Nunez hitting the woodwork 4 times, including a missed penalty. Their most recent EPL road trip delivered a 4-0 win at Bournemouth and Liverpool have lost just 1 league game all season, at Spurs back in September.

Man City (who will have 2 games in hand after this match) go to Brentford on Monday night but a win here would send Liverpool 8 points clear, at least for 24 hours or so.

Liverpool have also had a good time of it in cup football recently. They reached the EFL Cup Final with a 1-1 draw at Fulham last week to go through 3-2 on aggregate and last weekend they were 5-2 winners at home to Norwich in the fourth round of the FA Cup. The Europa League knockout rounds also beckon and

in his last season as coach Klopp is in the hunt for all available major trophy's.

Recent Head to Head

The first league meeting this season took place at Anfield just before Christmas and it finished 1-1

Since then Liverpool won a third round FA Cup tie at this venue 2-0

The Betting

At the time of writing Arsenal are trading at 5/4 to win the game with the draw priced at 26/10 and Liverpool can be backed at around 1.95/1

A game of 3 goals or more is priced at 0.63/1 and it's 11/20 for both teams to score

The Verdict:

Arsenal have shown signs that they have recovered from a mid season wobble although that was in wins against sides who are in the wrong half of the table and

they take on the league leaders now.

Liverpool were terrific against Chelsea and could have doubled the winning margin without any arguments. They started with their first choice full backs on the bench and Salah and Endo unavailable but whoever plays seems bought in to goal of another title for Klopp before he leaves.

Arsenal can't afford to lose this and my preference is for a draw and I will nibble at 2-2. For goalscorers, any time, I'm with Nunez, who stuck to his task against Chelsea for the visitors and Odegaard for the hosts
