FulhamOur featured FA Cup fourth round tie taking place on Saturday sees Fulham bid to bounce back from midweek disappointment when they host Newcastle

Fulham

Fulham were in EFL Cup semi final action on Wednesday. They trailed Liverpool 2-1 after the first keg at Anfield and they were unable to turn things around after drawing the return 1-1

Fulham were 1-0 winners at home to Championship strugglers Rotherham in the third round of the FA Cup recently. In the EPL Fulham are just below half way in the EPL standings with 24 points and they have lost 4 of their last 5 league games with a 2-1 home over Arsenal bucking the trend.

Newcastle

Newcastle came up against local rivals Sunderland in the third round and they turned what looked a potentially awkward away tie into a one sided contest and ran out 3-0 winners with Isak grabbing a brace.

At the tail end of 2023 Newcastle were knocked out of the UCL and the EFL Cup and this competition represents the last remaining chance for silverware.

In the EPL Newcastle are in tenth spot, all of 14 points off a top 4 spot. Newcastle have lost each of their last 4 league games although the 2 most recent matches were tough as they lost 4-2 at Liverpool and 3-2 at home to Manchester City

Recent Head to Head

When the teams met in the EPL in Newcastle in mid December Fulham were reduced to men early doors and ended up going down 3-0.

Newcastle have won 5 and drawn 2 of the last 7 head to heads.

The Betting

At the time of writing Fulham are trading at 19/10 to win the game with the draw priced at 5/2 and Newcastle can be backed at around 13/10

A game of 3 goals or more is priced at 8/11 and it's 13/20 for both teams to score

The Verdict

Fulham have to put the EFL Cup semi final exit behind them and its fair to say the season of whoever loses this tie could drift to a tame conclusion.

Newcastle made short work of Sunderland away from home in the previous round but with just 1 win, 2 draws and 7 defeats from their Premier League road trips they are the second worst travellers in the top flight.

If the fourth round tie ends in a draw a replay is required and it's only from the fifth round onwards that ties are settled on the day. With both sides looking to stay in the hunt for a major final I can see this ending all square.
